A Guide to Dr. Sunshine’s 14 Day Cleanse

You may have an idea of what a cleanse is, or why it could be beneficial. At Shine medicine, Dr. Ervin has led many groups and individuals in our 14 Day Guided Cleanse. We are collecting real information on how the cleanses have supported clients in their health journey.

In this blog I share insight based on our past experiences with cleanses.

Why cleanse ?

A cleanse is a way to upgrade your body’s ability to do what it does naturally.

By limiting the input of foods that slow down the healthy release of toxins such as sugar, coffee and other starches like bread we aren’t adding more for our body to detox.

Taking in nourishing foods and cleansing shakes further supports our kidney and liver’s ability to clear and cleanse

People most commonly seek cleanses to help form new eating or drinking habits, help lose weight, or to heal from a chronic condition or sleeping issue.

Those who take on a cleanse often have different types of lifestyles, from totally new to cleansing to already limiting sugar, coffee or alcohol.

For some a cleanse can be just an extra boost to an already healthy lifestyle. For others it can be a total upheaval.

Wherever you lie on the spectrum, you will join the dozens of Shine Guided Cleansers who feel more energy, boosted mood, better digestion and even some weight loss.

Why cleansing can be daunting:

No matter who you are, you may have steered clear of cleanses in the past because of the changes you will have to make. Often people feel like they will have to deprive themselves of food and experiences. Doing something different than your peers can be daunting, because food and drink is heavily tied to both our social lives and habits we share with others. That’s why participating in a cleanse alone is often so much more challenging.

Our Shine Guided cleanser’s reported they were scared that their cravings would just be too strong or they wouldn’t be able to do it. However after the cleanse only 8% of the cleanse participants felt like the 2 week cleanse was too hard and couldn’t wait for it to end.

Majority of participants commit to a once or twice yearly cleanse at the end, which is why we continue to offer the Shine Guided Cleanse  group support.

Despite initial fears, after 12 days 92% of cleanser participants felt like they could keep cleansing. They actually felt like the cleanse was more manageable than they initially imagined. This shows that our preconceived notions about the difficulty of cleansing may be the worst thing for our ability to start a cleanse.

The lesson: don’t knock a good thing before you try it.

Sticking with your cleanse:

One of the top tricks to sticking with a cleanse is to make it social.

When supported by your peers, you feel less like you are missing out. If you plan to do a cleanse, tell your friends, your spouse, your kids, so they see you taking care of yourself and can help you through this change of habits and routines.

With the support of other cleansers you will find a shared sense of struggles, wins, care, and freedom!

Our Shine Guided Cleanse provides an app to guide you through every step, receive and send messages with Dr. Ervin, and to track your success.

Benefits of cleansing:

Cleansing is an opportunity to take a break from inflammatory habits and reset your healthy lifestyle.

Many of our past cleansers experienced these benefits after their 14 day cleanse:

  • Uplifted mood

  • Happier gut

  • Increased energy

  • Weight loss

  • Clear thinking

Through the support provided by Dr. Ervin during the cleanse, many of our cleansers learned how to use principles of blood sugar management to allow their energy, mood and weight to be more manageable. Another benefit is to truly understand what “clean eating” looks and feels like.

“The cleanse program was a great way to reset old mental and bodily habits - to not grab for that piece of bread or chocolate (non-healthy food option) during a moment of fatigue, stress, or boredom - a difficult thing to reprogram! To pay attention to my gut and limits, that I don't have to eat as much as I do (eyes are bigger than my stomach), which can be the case at dinner, after a long tiring day, using food as pleasure, or in mid-afternoon snacks at work when I need a boost...learning to take other breaks instead, such as a 5 minute meditation, yoga or possibly Qigong. This one is still a learning curve.”

Shine Cleanses:

During a Shine cleanse you will support your body in the following ways:

  • Drinking enough water

  • Breaking the habits of  of alcohol, coffee and processed foods

  • Increasing the intake of fiber-rich snacks

  • Eating more veggies and organic foods

  • Adding in cleansing shakes that help liver and kidney detox

In the cleanse this Spring you start with the increased water and fiber. Then we’ll add in 2 shakes a day plus herbs, nutrients, antioxidants and extra amino acids to support healthy cleansing. You will also include one meal a day that consists of anti-inflammatory foods.

Dr. Ervin will offer further education on cleansing and extra support to include a psychological cleanse practice.
It’s important that we prepare our mind and body for the renewal before a cleanse and reflect throughout the process so that we get the most benefit from a cleanse. Our cleanse will start with an initiation class a week ahead of time to prepare us for 2 weeks of cleansing. Good sleep and healthy bowel movements are two of the most important aspects of an effective cleanse.

“I am more grounded and comfortable mentally and physically when I eat a clean diet.”

What are the benefits of getting the education and support through the cleanse?

Many of the cleanses on the market today are hard on the bowels or liver. During the Shine Guided Cleanse, you’ll use lifestyle choices and shakes rather than stacks of pills or strange formulas to support natural detoxification.

Dr. Ervin encourages folks to repeat the Shine Guided Cleanse each time we offer it- twice yearly (Spring & Fall). Each time you will relearn the principals and experience the benefits of cleansing.

Your mind and body gets an upgrade that lasts… and even sometimes you can shift everyday habits to create an environment for progressively improved health.

The amount of misinformation or confusing information that is out there regarding our health and diet can really mess with our heads. “What should I be doing differently?” can be a hard question to answer when it’s hard to find the truth.
